Little Bird 03:47
Little Bird © 2017 Brian Junker Little bird, little bird, with feathers so fine So eager to be here, I might make you mine Chirping and chattering, drawing my gaze Your happy songs brighten my days. Though the sun be too hot to fly in the sky I'll wait for you here -- you'll return by and by Together we'll sing 'till my lady may come And the three of our voices will cool down the sun Though the waters may rise and topple your tree I'll still hear your songs, if you sing them to me When my lady returns, pretty as you please We'll charm all the storms, and lower the seas Though the winds be too strong, and they blow you away I'll keep your nest safe, come whatever may And comfort my lady -- for the world she keens We'll quiet the winds, with the strength of our dreams

Susan's Photographs © 2017 Brian Junker If you visit Susan's house She'll brew a cup of tea for you you'll sit upon Susan's couch See the photo albums stacked upon her table... Every spring when tulips push their leaves up through the warming ground Susan takes her camera out and Walks among the flowerbeds in her garden Her verdant children stretch their arms Toward warming sun as summer dawns They show their colored faces to her She saves their smiles on glossy bits of paper Daffodils and hyacinths, irises and roses Marigolds and snapdragons, sunflowers, chrysanthemums Spring to Autumn, birth to death, They rise and fall, a circle dance She makes a book for each new year The years go by and Susan's skill increases In winter she might take a class, or buy a book, on photographs She hardly ever reads them though Her loves lie elsewhere, under snow Each passing summer savored there in each book stacked beside her chair And across the books you can see The summers changing endlessly Over decades

The Week Between The Years © 2017 Brian Junker I hear the ticking of the clock Apart from that the whole world's stopped - it's waiting I see the falling winter snow Beyond the reach of fire's glow - embracing I'm so grateful to be here in the week between the years Every day I'm finding everything I need is here Every day I wake up, what I want's becoming clear I could stay forever with you, living in the week between the years Maybe we will brew some tea It's been so long since I've felt free - of worries About things I forgot to do They drift away when I'm with you - just flurries I'm so grateful you are here in the week between the years I know these quiet days must end The new year's coming 'round the bend - it's bringing Joys and sorrows yet to come 'Till then I guess we're on our own - and singing I'm so grateful we are here in the week between the years

This Is Your Time © 2017 Brian Junker There you are - scanning the fields below Wondering - how you can fly Leaning forward - into the rushing wind Reaching back - but wanting to try You have been - waiting a long long time Counting days - until you are free Look at you - ready to stand up tall Waiting here - until you can be This is your time - go out and find your world This is your time - follow your heart This is your time - change is your constant friend Don't be shy - it's your time to start Standing up - hungry to spread your wings Stretching out - reach for the sky Rising up - touching the wisps of clouds In the air - now you can fly

Walk Away 05:27
Walk Away © 2017 Brian Junker It's four in the morning, he can't sleep anymore, anyway He sits in this diner, conversations and the table jukebox play A crossroads of people, goin to work or just stayin out late He needed a walk just to shine some neon light onto his fate Some words you can't take back Some tears always stain Some silences push you To just walk away... The coffee tastes bitter, or is it the memories in his head? There's no use goin back now, no use, tryin to share that bed There must've been some good times, or else why the hell did he stay so long? They tug at him from somewhere, but the urge for goin's gettin strong Some times you start over On some bright new day But some weights are too heavy To just walk away... And the streets outside are still sleepy But the bottom of his cup has gone dry There's no reason to stay any longer No reason not to decide He gets his check from the pretty girl in the waitress dress It's been so long now since he's held a woman or felt her caress He walks out the door to the corner, home's about a mile to the right He looks the other way and wonders, what could be left, what could be left, of this night? Some dreams are empty Some visions decay Some times it's not worth it You just walk away...

Troubled For You By Ted Sherman © 1975 Sanskrit Records Used by Permission I've troubled for you from time to time That's why nothing new can break the bind It's the time you waste for them That makes a friend a friend Unique in all the world until the end We've traveled for years through mindless miles And shared us some tears through aimless trials And though you're old and worn You're the only home I've known Through memories stretched beyond so many dawns I find it hard to believe that time brings change Now all of my friends are broken with age But what's essential you cannot see I'm responsible for my friends and they for me

This has been a blast. I am deeply grateful to count as friends and acquaintances professionals ready and willing to help me swim a bit in these waters: Emily, Brad, Ellen, Jason, Jeff and Chris. Thanks also to John Hayes and the Pittsburgh Songwriters’ Circle for creating a warm and welcoming environment for all songwriters.

Special thanks to Irma Tani, without whom none of this would be possible. All the days!
